Bakkies Botha

One of South Africa’s most prolific rugby legends, Bakkies Botha, is set to join the Boks again on their tour to Wales, Scotland and France.

Botha has been playing for French club, Toulon since 2011. His return to the green and gold will surely have South African rugby fans jumping for joy. Whilst being a Springbok, Bakkies earned himself the well deserved nickname of the ‘enforcer’. And I’m sure fans would like to see him ‘enforce’ again.

Speaking to SuperSport, Bakkies said he is very excited to join the Springbok line up again. The giant rugby player received a personal call from Springbok coach, Heyneke Meyer last week, asking him to join the squad for the tour.

Bakkies also hopes that his presence in the team will help the young lock duo of Eben Etzebeth and Pieter-steph du Toit.

Speaking of his time in France, Bakkies said that he has enjoyed it in Toulon and feels that he is playing some great rugby.

That testament is true, as since his arrival at the French club, Bakkies has helped his team win the coveted Heineken cup and still continues to make Toulon a force to be reckoned with.

But, it does seem that home is where the heart is, as Bakkies is clearly very excited for a return to the Boks:

“It’s always an amazing feeling to be selected for the Springboks after two years, my last test match was against Fiji at the Rugby World Cup – on my birthday. Hopefully I can get a chance to play again on the tour here, but its always a privilege to play for the Springboks,” he said.

Considering the World Cup was more than 2 years ago, we bet Bakkies is itching for some Bok action.

Bakkies, along with Eben Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit and his former Bulls teammate, Flip van der Merwe will make up the 4 locks on the squad.

The Springboks will travel to France, Wales and Scotland and kick off their tour on November 9th with a match against Wales.

We sure are proud to see our enforcer back in action for the Boks!
